End-User License Agreement

Last updated: August 23, 2026 — this version adds a permission: an organization may now deploy ChakataStat internally to machines it owns or controls (see Deploying inside an organization). It also drops Flathub from the list of official stores, which is not a channel ChakataStat publishes on, and updates the contact address. Nothing previously permitted has been withdrawn.

This agreement governs your use of the ChakataStat desktop application (the “Software”), published by Edward Amani. ChakataStat is proprietary software offered free of charge: you may install and use it, but it is not open source, and you may not copy or pass it on except as these terms expressly permit. By installing or using the Software you accept these terms.

The short version

• Free to install and use — for personal, academic and commercial work alike.
• Get it from an official channel. Individuals get their own copy the same way; an organization may deploy it internally to its own machines.
• Don't share, repost, or redistribute copies, except for the internal deployment permitted below.
• Don't modify, reverse engineer, or repackage it.
• Your data and your results are entirely yours.

What you may do

You are granted a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license, free of charge, to:

• download the Software from an official distribution channel — the stores and download links published at chakatastat.app;
• install and run it on devices you own or control;
• use it for any lawful purpose, including commercial, academic and personal work; and
• deploy it inside your organization, on the terms below.

You may keep a private backup of your installer. That, and the internal deployment described next, are the only copying this license permits.

Deploying inside an organization

Universities, hospitals, companies and other organizations do not install software one machine at a time, and this license does not ask them to. An administrator authorized by the organization may:

• obtain the Software once from an official distribution channel, and
• deploy that copy internally — by imaging, Intune, SCCM, MDM, a managed store, a configuration-management tool or equivalent — to devices the organization owns or controls, for use by its members.

The copy must not be altered, repackaged for anyone outside the organization, or made available for download beyond it. Each organization obtains its own copy from an official channel; a deployment package is not a distribution channel. Everything else in this license applies unchanged to every installed copy.

What you may not do

Except with prior written permission, you may not:

• redistribute the Software — do not share copies with others, bundle it with other products, mirror it, or make it available for download anywhere. Outside the internal deployment described above, each user obtains the Software themselves, from an official channel;
• copy it beyond what installing, running, a private backup and an internal deployment require;
• modify it, translate it, or create derivative works from it;
• reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble it, except to the extent a law that applies to you expressly permits it despite this term;
• rent, lease, lend, sell or sublicense it; or
• remove or alter its copyright, trademark or attribution notices.

Your data and your results

Everything you create with ChakataStat is yours. Your datasets remain your own, and the outputs you produce — results tables, charts, reports, exported files — belong to you and may be used, published and shared freely, in papers, theses, reports or anywhere else. Citing the Software (Help → How to Cite) is appreciated but is a scholarly convention, not a condition of this license. How the app handles your data is described in the privacy policy.

Ownership

The Software is licensed, not sold. Edward Amani retains all right, title and interest in the Software, including all copyright and the ChakataStat name and logo. No rights are granted beyond those expressly stated here.

Third-party components

The Software includes open-source components from third parties. Their licenses and attributions ship with the app in its NOTICES file; those components remain governed by their own licenses.

Updates and store terms

Updates and new versions are provided under these terms unless a revised license accompanies them. Where you install ChakataStat through a store — the Microsoft Store or the Snap Store — that store's own terms apply alongside this license.

No warranty

The Software is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. Statistical results depend on your data and your choice of method; you are responsible for verifying that outputs are appropriate for the decisions you base on them. ChakataStat's numerical validation practices are described on the validation page, but no warranty of accuracy is made.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Edward Amani shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or any loss of data, profits or business, arising from the use of or inability to use the Software, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.

Termination

This license ends automatically if you breach its terms. On termination you must stop using the Software and delete your copies. The sections on ownership, no warranty and limitation of liability survive termination.

Changes to these terms

If these terms change, this page will be updated and the new terms will apply to versions of the Software released after the change. The version of these terms in effect when you obtained your copy governs that copy.
